Test Name: BLD CULTURE ANAEROBE, PEDIATRIC

Synonyms: ANABLD ANAEROBIC BLOOD CULTURE
Panel Composition: Anaerobic Blood culture.
Susceptibility testing will be performed appropriate to organism isolated if indicated per Microbiology protocol.


Preferred Container: 1 x EZ Draw 40 ml VersaTREK Redox 2
Alternate Container: 1 x EZ Draw 80ml VersaTREK Redox 2
Sample Type: Blood or Bone Marrow
Collection Instructions: Volume of blood drawn is the primary factor influencing sensitivity of detection of pathogens in blood stream infections. The recommended optimal volume of blood to be drawn is based on the weight of the patient. The following table outlines the recommended volume based on various weight ranges. CLABSI Guideline
Special Collection Instructions: Obtain as close to maximum amount of blood as possible. Sensitivity of test is dependent on blood volume.
Specimen Transport: Deliver sample immediately to lab. Ideal transport time is less than 2 hours. In exceptional cases where the transport time is greater than 4 hours, blood culture bottles may be accepted; however the cultures are reported with a "Results may be compromised due to delay in transport" comment
Causes for Rejection: Any bottle other than Versatrek Redox 2 bottle
Testing Frequency: 24 hours. Negative culture reports are updated daily at
1500. Positive cultures are reported verbally as well as in LIS.
Expected Turn Around Time: Negative cultures - 5 days.
Reference Ranges: No organisms isolated
