Routine aerobic culture.
Susceptibility testing will be performed appropriate to organism isolated if indicated per Microbiology protocol.
|Preferred Container:||1 x Sterile Container|
|Special Collection Instructions:||Swabs are not optimal for specimen collection and may yeild false negative results. Aspirate or tissue specimens are preferred.|
|Specimen Transport:||Deliver sample to lab immediately.|
|Testing Frequency:||Inoculation - 24 hours; Cultures read daily.|
Expected Turn around Time for negative cultures - 3 days.
|Clinical Application:||This culture is designed for normally sterile specimens such as tissue, pleural fluid, etc... All cultures with <= 3 organisms isolated will be worked up with identification and susceptibility. Gram stain is performed on all specimens.|
