Panel Composition: Direct gram stain.
Routine aerobic culture.
Susceptibility testing will be performed appropriate to organism isolated if indicated per Microbiology protocol.

Special Collection Instructions: Swabs are not optimal for specimen collection and may yeild false negative results. Aspirate or tissue specimens are preferred.
Specimen Transport: Deliver sample to lab immediately.
Testing Frequency: Inoculation - 24 hours; Cultures read daily.
Expected Turn around Time for negative cultures - 3 days.
Clinical Application: This culture is designed for normally sterile specimens such as tissue, pleural fluid, etc... All cultures with <= 3 organisms isolated will be worked up with identification and susceptibility. Gram stain is performed on all specimens.
Reference Ranges: No organisms isolated.
